What is NDWG?

NDWG is  about 2 important things...

Walking is our primary goal and our group (as you may  have gathered already) spans both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire  and caters predominantly for people in their 20's and 30's. We  welcome walkers of all abilities to join us on one of our many varied walks on offer. Our walks programme is viewable on the web click walks.

As you'll see, we have day walks every week, often with a choice of walks and weekends away once or twice a month

Socialising is fundamental to our group activities and our  social programme offers socials every two weeks. To view our social programme click on Social.

How it all begun?

The NDWG was set up in 1997 by Kevin Matthews and Sarah Rich who met up on an overseas walking holiday in Alpbach,   Austria and thought it would be a great idea to see a young people's walking group (ypg) set up back home

The NDWG membership has now increased to around 340+ members, with the majority of us being active members. The group is a great way to explore the outdoors and meet new people. Our day walks regularly attract over 40 people (mostly over 2 walks) on a Sunday. We also offer walks on a Saturday and Wednesday evenings during the summer, as well as weekends away all over the UK (stopping over in a YHA or bunkhouse), evening walks in the summer, night walks, half day walks and less strenuous 'New Start Walks' aimed at people new to the group

We are a local branch of The  Ramblers' Association (RA) and are now part of their  ever increasing number of National Young Persons' Groups (ypg's). To support the work carried out elsewhere in the RA, we work to protect our local rights of way by surveying paths and reporting any problems. We also help to defend the beauty of our local countryside by laying on conservation weekends, often at rock bottom accommodation prices and with a social side too.

How to join us?

The quickest and easiest way to join us is to fill out the Ramblers application form online

To ensure that you are correctly allocated to our group's membership list, please enter

"Notts & Derby Group NE16" into the local group box on the form.

You are not obliged to join the group immediately however. Please feel free to turn up to a few walks and socials first to get a feel for the group and make sure it's right for you. We would ask you to join as soon as you start turning up to event semi regularly though out of courtesy.

Membership forms are available from any Group Committee member and most walk leaders.
