The NDWG was set up in 1997 by Kevin Matthews and Sarah Rich who met on an overseas walking holiday in Alpbach, Austria and thought it would be a great idea to see a young people's walking group set up back home
The NDWG membership has now increased to around 340 members, with the majority of us being active members. The group is a great way to explore the outdoors and meet new people. Our day walks regularly attract over 40 people (mostly over 2 walks) on a Sunday.
We also offer walks on Saturday and on Wednesday evenings during the summer, as well as weekends away all over the UK (stopping over in a YHA or bunkhouse). We also offer less strenuous 'New Start Walks' aimed at people new to the group.
We are a local branch of The Ramblers' Association (RA) and are now part of their ever increasing number of local young persons' groups. To support the work carried out by the RA, we work to protect our local rights of way by surveying paths and reporting any problems. We also help to defend the beauty of our local countryside by running regular conservation weekends, often at rock bottom accommodation prices and with a social side too.
NDWG is about two important things:
For members of the group we also run a bi-weekly email update, if you want to subscribe visit the Yahoo Groups page. If you would like to join the group take a look at how to join.
