Where do we meet?

Unless otherwise stated, we meet up to arrange to share lifts for Sunday walks.

In Nottingham we meet outside Castle college (formerly Peoples College), parking outside the Trip to Jerusalem pub (map). In Derby we meet on Vernon Street at Vernon Gate which is just off Friar Gate (map).

We leave from the meet points at 9 o’clock on a Sunday. If you do get a lift please remember to:

  1. Offer the driver something towards the petrol and parking cost (£2-£4 is usual depending on distance)
  2. Carry a change of footwear for the return journey, to help keep the car clean.

You are more than welcome to turn up at the actual start point of the walk. It may be beneficial to contact the leader in advance to notify them that you plan to turn up. Walks generally leave from the start point when all the cars from the meet points have arrived. Usually this is not until about 10:30am but for walks closer to the meet points, it may be earlier. Please try and arrive at the start point 15 minutes before the start time to ensure prompt departure.

For Saturday and Wednesday walks please drive directly to the start point or arrange to lift-share with other members of the group.

Where do we walk?

Our walks generally involve no more than 1.5 hours travelling. The main areas where we walk are the Dark Peak, White Peak and sometimes in other areas, including Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.

What gear do I need?

Whilst the majority of our day walks involve walking over gently rolling countryside, both the weather and the grade of our walks should determine what level of gear you take out with you.

You should always bring enough food with you. Some walks will stop at pubs but you should not assume that this will be the case. If we do stop at a pub please show respect and do not eat your own food in the pub or in the beer garden.

Items to bring with you depending on the weather and grade

What are the walking grades?

We have 5 grades of walks ranging from grade A, the hardest, to Grade E, the easiest:

Grade Terrain Examples
A

Hard terrain to severe with very hard walking and offering excitement and a challenge with scrambling and up to and over an average of eight hours walking in mountainous areas

Scotland - backpacking, hard day walks. We do not class any walks outside of Scotland as 'A'

B

Hard terrain, strenuous days offering excitement and challenge walking most of the day and only occasional scrambling in mountainous and hilly areas

Lakes, Snowdonia

C

Moderate terrain, reasonably energetic days on the hills involving rougher paths, longer distances and maybe a faster pace at times

Hard Peak District walks - maybe Edale Skyline etc

D

Easy terrain for people who enjoy the hills involving more climbs at a regular pace

Most of our Sunday walks

E

Very easy flattish terrain, often shorter in distance, suitable for people new to walking

Most of our Sunday walks

Can I bring my dog?

You are welcome to bring your dog along, although please contact the walk leader to let them know in advance. Also there are a couple of things to bear in mind:
